REGATTABAHN DUISBURG

The Regattabahn Duisburg is a competition venue for canoeing and rowing. It is 2,180 metres long and 120 metres wide and is located in Sportpark Duisburg, in the southern part of Duisburg’s Neudorf district.
Sportpark Duisburg is considered the largest contiguous sports park of its kind in Germany. The regatta course was created in the early 1930s as part of gravel extraction works and officially opened in 1935. Today, it hosts national and international canoeing and rowing competitions.

The National High-Performance Centre for Canoe Sprint and the regatta course building are located near the finish area of the course.

The wooded area surrounding the regatta course is popular with recreational runners. A running track circles the entire regatta course and is illuminated in the mornings and evenings.

In recent years, the venue and its buildings have undergone extensive renovation. Today, the Duisburg Regatta Course is one of the most modern canoeing and rowing facilities in the world.

GET INVOLVED, DON’T JUST WATCH

On 19 and 20 September, KanuJugend NRW and the Deutsche Kanujugend invite the whole family to enjoy a varied programme of hands-on activities on the Dreieckswiese in front of the regatta course.

Under the motto “Get involved, don’t just watch”, clubs, families, children, young people and sports enthusiasts of all ages can discover the diversity of canoeing and try it out for themselves.

Every hour on the hour, visitors can take part in a taster paddling session and gain their first experience on the water. Experienced instructors will be on hand to ensure everyone’s safety.

For our youngest visitors aged three to seven, the Wasser-Kibaz offers a fun and varied activity course.

Among others, 1. Meidericher Kanu-Club, North Rhine-Westphalia’s most successful canoe polo club, will offer an introduction to canoe polo. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the sport’s techniques and equipment.

The Canoe Wii station highlights the diversity and inclusive nature of canoeing. Visitors can experience how people with different abilities and backgrounds can enjoy the sport together.
For the first time, the programme will also feature activities as part of the German federal programme against extremism and discrimination.

The message is clear: Canoeing is for everyone!

There will also be expert talks and panel discussions. These sessions are part of the “Federal Programme against Extremism and Discrimination in Sport”.

Additionally: Away from the sporting action, food trucks will provide a variety of refreshments, while information stands offer insights into the different facets of canoe sport. In the athletes’ area, the cocktail bar will also be open on Saturday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., serving refreshing drinks.
